What Causes Nausea, Diarrhea, Loose Stool And Food Poisoning?

Question: Several weeks ago, after eating Mexican food, I became quite ill (nausea, clammy, diahhrea) and assumed I had food poisoning. In the last two or three weeks I have had sporadic pain in the abdominal region. It started on the left side, but now it is on the right. It is not constant and not excruciating, just periodic little sharp pains. Now, for the sixth day in a row I am extremely loose bowels - almost foamy, but otherwise I feel fine. What's your best guess and when should I get real concerned? I called to make an appointment with my doctor today and was told the next available was late July. Please respond by putting "Your medical question" in the subject line.
Brief Answer:
2 possible causes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of 2 possible causes.
1. I think the possibility of a severe gastritis should be considered. A simple prescription of Omeprazole 20 mg once daily at breakfast may help.
2. As you suggested, an infection needs to be considered. I would ideally recommend a stool routine test followed by a course of antibiotics and probiotics.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
