What Causes Neck And Shoulder Pain, Lightheadedness And Tingling Sensation In The Face?

Question: Good morning. I have a problem that has been bothering me for roughly a month and need advice. There is a pain--sometimes dull, but often sharp--in my left shoulder that travels to the back of my head, generally on the left side. I also have a mild tingling sensation on the left side of my face and head and dull headache often feeling lightheaded and spacy. Finally, i have noticed that my left eyelid twitches quite often for extended periods of time. This is generally worse in the mornings and tends to get a little better as the day goes on, but never completely goes away. I would also note that i tend to feel tired all the time. Thoughts??

Brief Answer:
Problem could be in neck or brain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthoedic Surgeon.
All the symptoms you have described can originate from either cervical spine or brain. The neck and shoulder pain could be because of pinching of nerve in neck and the same pinching can lead to light headed XXXXXXX and tingling. The other possibility could some lesion in brain ( like blood collection or temporary spasm) which can mimic the abovementioned picture.
I would suggest BP check up , X Ray Cervical Spine , and CT brain as investigations.
The treatment would depend on the cause.
Take a orthopedic and neuro consultation , depending on the reports.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.

Lesion in the brain sounds scary! I do know that several years ago i had an MRI done of the spine and degeneration (?) was noted in upper part of spine in neck area. Had cortisol shots in shoulder several weeks ago which helped temporarily. Pain gets intense at times in shoulder and at base of skull on left side. Hoping pinched nerve and not a brain lesion.

Brief Answer:
More Likely to be a pitched nerve only.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
It is more likely to be a pitched nerve only. But it is always better to rule out all possibilities.

Pain killers , muscle relaxants etc can be taken.

Hi .
Start Pain killers. Muscle Relaxants and anti vertigo drugs. If tingling is severe than take Gabapentin also. Ice / Heat may not help much.
