What Causes Neck Inflammation, Vertigo Spells And Nausea?
Question: I was given a VNG test and i have attached the findings. In february i saw a balance specialist and i dont have his report, but was told all tests were normal and im just anxious. I continue to have back and neck inflammation and pain, vertigo spells, nausea, along with aome other symptoms. I am not responding to physical therapy or vestibular therapy. My mri of brain was in an open machine without contrast and did not contains iac's, but report showed no abnormalities. Could i still have a central problem? Should i request mri with contrast to include iac's?
Brief Answer:
vestibular migraine.consult neurologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
In my opinion you seems to be suffering with vestibular Migraine.
As per your VNG report, peripheral vestibular system is normal, there is abnormalities
In vestibulo-ocular reflex mechanism which suggests central vestibular lesion.
In this condition, MRI will be normal, as it is a neuronal mechanism.
Physical rehabilitation will not help either.
I would suggests you to consult a neurologist and take treatment for vestibular migraine.

Thank you so much for responding. Is it out of the ordinary for someone to develop this type of migraine a few days after having a baby? I have no prior history of migraine. I do experience a large amount of motion sickness, feeling off balance, and nausea too. Vestibular theraoy was discontinued as the therapist feels i dont have any balance issues. I also have been suffering from chronic neck pain/inflammation and back pain that all started about the same time. Could this be connected or is it more likey to be something separate. What is a ssri that you prefer? I tried zoloft but did not see any improvement. Actually the rocking/swaying feeling was more intense.
Brief Answer:
Get MRI with contrast done ,consult neurologist
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is actually common to develop migraine during and after pregnancy. Neck pain and back pain are also related to this.
This pains can be reduced by doing rehab exercises.
For vertigo, in my opinion until there is central compensation, dizziness will persist.
Zoloft are antidepressants , and dizziness is their side effect. So stop the drug.
I would recommend for beta blockers for migraine headaches and antivertigo drugs like cinnarizine for dizziness.
Continue your rehab exercise daily twice.
Consult neurologist for further evaluation.
