What Causes Neurogenic Bladder And Joint Pains In A Patient With Diabetes?
I have uploaded recent test reports.Though my fasting blood sugar is 123 mg/dl which is still continuing at my earlier reported level, glucose PP is 198 mg/dl. Hba1c at 7.40%.My present problems are as below:
1.I feel as if my bladder is full and during night this problem is more.Occasionally I experience pain both side of lower abdomen. Microalbumin test report is uploaded.
2.I have continuous joint pain, left elbow joint and surrounding bone/muscle pain is continuing for last 20/30 days.I have pain in left side finger joints, left knee joint and left side of waist .But this pain is not as acute as elbow pain.Occasionally(rare) I feel pain in my right elbow joint also.
Now I am taking Gluconorm G1(500 mg) and Remylyn D .I am also taking Karela Jamun powder(1 tea spoon) mixed with water. Please advise any change in medicine and how can I get rid of joint and lower abdomen pain?
Neurogenic bladder and joint pains are possible complications of diabetes.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I understand your query and concern.
Firstly you should not stop taking medication even though your blood sugar levels come within normal limits.
I advise you to monitor your blood sugars for every 2 weeks, get an Ultrasound abdomen and Urodynamic studies for your bladder dysfunction.
Regarding your bladder disturbances which can be termed as Neurogenic bladder(Autonomic neuropathy) and joint pains are more common in diabetics, you need to follow these instructions:
Behavioural therapy which includes going to toilet for every 15 min initially and increasing the time duration day by day.
2.Pelvic exercises for 20 min daily will help.
3.Breathing relaxation techniques should be followed.
4.Intake of 3-4 litres of water per day will help to prevent complications.
5.Loss of weight and physiotherapy will relieve your joint pains.
Drugs like Oxybutinin (for bladder disturbances) and NSAIDS, codeine (joint pains)will help.
NOTE: These drugs should be taken under strict medical prescription of your doctor.
Gluconorm G is an excellent drug in treating diabetes and Remylyn D is a B vitamin drug which is to be taken to relieve neuropathies or nerve weakness.
So continue your present medication without fail
