What Causes No Period Bleeding After Mercilon Withdrawal?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 May 2014
Question: Hi I have been taking the Pill for 14 years, Mercilon for 7/8 years. I stopped it for my pill break last Monday (21.3.14) but got no bleed. I decided not to restart my next packet this Monday (28.3.14) to see if my bleed will start. However nothing has happened. I had unprotected sex last Wednesday (23.3.14) which I assume I was protected during my pill break? And again this Wednesday (30.3.14). Is this normal not to have a bleed or should I take a pregnancy test? I am currently in a relationship of 8 years and I am 27 years old. Thank you so much x

Brief Answer:
Post pill amenorrhea

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
You are having a post pill amenorrhea. It is normal for the pills to cause a thinning of the layer in the uterus which will become period bleeding. It is known to cause lack of bleeding for a long time. Usually in such cases, after stopping this pill there would be periods of irregular bleeding and then the regular period would start.
You can wait for a week and in case there is still no bleeding do get your pregnancy test done.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
You can test your urine now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Since you stopped taking the pill on 23rd march you should have got your periods by now- 1st may. Now you can test your urine for pregnancy and if the test is negative do start with the next pack of pills.
Hope my answer is helpful.
