What Causes Nodules And Swelling On Both Upper Eyelids?
Question: Myself XXXXXXX XXXXXXX 45 years male is suffering from hypertension and tachycardia for past 10 years and taking medicine under the supervision of a cardiologist. At present I am taking sartel-40,concorcor-2.5 and rosuvas-10 daily. In the month of October,2015 an infection was developed on both upper eyelids.after taking antibiotic eyedrop and oral antibiotic, this infection, swelling and redness disappeard. But this infection developed again on both eyelids and bottomline of both eyes in the month of November,2015. I consulted one eye surgeon and he checked my both eyes and told -
1.these are chalagyon 2. my eye sight is o.k. but I am giving slight stress during reading and computer operation. He suggested to take a glass with adding power +1.25.Moreover he advised me to control over dandruff to avoid recurrence of such chalagyon. He advised me to take doxycycline tablet for 7 days along with antibiotic eye drops.Though swelling reduced to a smaller extent but did not clear completely. Then I consulted another eye surgeon and her findings almost remained same as that of the first one. She advised me doxycycline 7 in 1st phase and another 7 for 2nd phase along with antibiotic eye drops but no significant result obtained.swelling reduces for time beings then again reappeared.I did not take any glass.I did warm compress but in an irregular manner. At present I have two nodules on both upper eyelids as shown in the picture. One which is larger appears red,the other is comperatively small. No pain is there. At early morning,I found that these nodules have reduced in size but with time it regains its shape again. In the month of December,I tested my HbA1c and It"s value was 5.Very recent I am using a glass adding a power as suggested by Doctor.
Now my questions are:
1.what are those nodules?
2.Why they are formed?
3.what is the treatment option?

Brief Answer:
Chalazion.
Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
This is a chalazion. This occurs due to infection blocking the opening of lid margin glands.
Conservative treatment to be tried is application of ocupol D eye ointment daily at bad time for at least 3 to 4 weeks.Oral antibiotics have already been used and now they don't have a role.If this ointment gives desired result, then it is ok,otherwise surgical removal is last option.
