There are several factors which may contribute to nonalcoholic fatty liver and these are pre-diabetes and obesity which are most common risk factors. Medications may worsen the conditions as well, especially sulfaslazine and fluoxetine, but these are not the main cause.
To some degree, this is genetically determined, but you should reduce risk factors which are changeable so the first step is to control your body weight, blood sugar and blood lipids.
Also, if there's any history of alcohol and smoking, it must be avoided. Medication dosage can be reduced if necessary, but without lifestyle changes, there won't be much improvement.
It's a gradual process, and once implemented, improvements can be observed within a few months only.
