Question: To Dr. Abubakar Siddiqh

Doctor, I have been using Nasoclear from last 3 days without any improvement. The dried part is still intact. No improvement at all. I used it thrice-four times in a day with 3 drops on each nostril. What should I do now.

Brief Answer:
nasal endoscopy.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Simple dried crusts can be removed with saline nasal drops secondary to dehydration, healing phase of viral cold or dry climate. Anyways, evaluate for granulomatous diseases like tuberculosis, rhinospordiosis and atrophic rhinitis with ent consultation and investigations (nasal endoscopy, complete blood picture with esr and if necessary x-ray chest).

All the best. Take care.

But I do not have any other symptom (cough/cold) nothing else...tuberculosis, rhinospordiosis and atrophic rhinitis can be ruled out. Though I will check with the ENT specialist today.

Brief Answer:
re-consultation.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

I suggest you to follow these measures to overcome your frequent drying of nose.

1. Re consult, with your treating surgeon for missed out diagnosis by redoing the investigations.

Frequent crusting also seen in non-allergic rhinitis, where investigations are always negative, can be managed with steroidal sprays.

2. Avoid personal habits like frequent blowing or picking at nasal membranes.

3. Nasal irrigation with syringe - mix a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda into a pint of boiled water that has been left to cool to around body temperature.

4. Post nasal irrigation, apply Vaseline as a moisturizer to prevent drying.

Kindly discuss with your treating doctor. All this can be done after proper evaluation.

All the best. Take care.
