What Causes Nonerosive Reflux Disease?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 May 2015
Question: Greetings, Any advise will be greatly appreciated . I am baffled and confused about my current situation. So I have had abdominal pain for the last two months, which is severe enough to wake me up at night from 12am - 5 am . The pain will last about and hour or two and will go away once I am up for the morning. So I went to my dr and she sent me to a gastrologist and A endoscopy egd was done on me and also a ultra sound. The ultra sound read a renal cyst on the right kidney measuring 1.5 by 1.3, the EGD results were sharp line z 38 cm , hiatal hernia present from 40 cm to 38 cm , stomach no ulcers no gastritis, h pylori biopsies negative. No duodentis. So my dr prescribes me Flexeryl to take at night and the hiatal hernia has nothing to do with my pain at night. I have had this pain for more than two months! Can he be serious that my hiatal hernia should not be nothing to my concern . The pain is severe and wakes me up at night , my stomach also gets really tight when I wake up. I explained all these symptons and he believes there stomach spams? Please help me.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to Nonerosive reflux disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Usually GERD produces inflammatory changes in the esophagus and since your gastroenterologist didn't see the signs of inflammation, concluded that you do not have GERD. However there is an entity Nonerosive reflux disease where there are no visible changes.
Try the following and see if it brings relief. Avoid acidic and spicy food, aerated or caffeinated beverages, go to bed on an empty stomach ( no food or fluid for 2 hours before bed time , a prokinetic Metoclopramide and a PPI 2 hrs before bedtime. If these bring you relief, then it is due to acid reflux without obvious GERD appearance on endoscopy.
