Posted on Tue, 8 Jul 2014
Question: I recently started feeling some numbness in both my feet. 2 months ago I fell on right shoulder rollerblading and my sternoclavicular joint is inflamed. My shoulder neck area is still pretty tight and is felt with some movements. is there any connection or any idea. I don't have any back pain except last weekend on Saturday I helped someone move and on Monday my back was sore for two days and it went away

Brief Answer:
Spinal Canal stenosis leads to numb sensation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case,

Spinal Canal stenosis leads to numb sensation in both feet.
Central disc bulge also can lead to both feet numbness.
MRI spine will help in diagnosis of both causes.

Another possibility of numb feet can be peripheral neuropathy due to diabetes, alcohol, hypothyroidism etc.
Blood work up and EMG-NCV [nerve conduction] study will help.

For these symptoms methylcobalamin and neurotropic medication like amitriptyline can be started consulting your doctor.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
Epidural steroid shot can help if no relief with medication.

These symptoms may not be related with your shoulder injury. Shoulder and neck injury can give numbness in arm not feet.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.

Hello
can you address what appears to be an inflamed sternocavicular joint. it hurts when you press on it in a specific spot. see above fall description. I feel a clicking sound with some arm movements right in the joint area. my right shoulder trap muscle on top gets very tight. I have been doing light dumbbell exercises, some push ups. massage and heat to treat. when I do dumbbell work I can hear stuff in shoulder rubbing like maybe ligaments or something like that

Brief Answer:
There may be possibility of rotator cuff injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

There may be possibility of rotator cuff injury which may need MRI for confirmation.
Also there can be involvement of acromio-clavicular joint.

You may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS ,or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.
You may need to take rest for early healing.

Some exercises which can be done after pain has reduced include- gradual neck rotation, touching your ears to shoulder, shoulder shrugging exercises ,shoulder rotation.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
