What Causes Numbness In The Jaw And Tooth Pain?

Question: After a brief toothache my left hand lower jaw went numb. My dentist spent 45 minutes injecting various analgesics, none of which worked! Her answer was to extract the tooth.
I requested antibiotics and pain killers to allow me time for a second opinion.
My doctor changed the prescription and made an appointment for me with a dental specialist as she is very worried about the oddity of the numbness and it not responding to various drugs.
Could this just be an abscess??

Brief Answer:
May be lingual nerve injury or involvement
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Numbness over chin or lower jaw region may be due to involvement of lingual nerve passing through jaw.
Is there any swelling, caries over tooth?
Is there any problem in hand or upper limbs?
Any history of local injectable anaesthesia for tooth?
Take pain killers if required. Continue antibiotics.
Visit a dentist for examination.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
