What Causes Numbness On Tongue After Stopping Citalopram?
Question: My daughter is complaining that her tongue is numb of and on and that her arm also goes numb sometimes today. She has a headache which is not unusual for her. She recently stopped taking citalopram. Could that have something to do with the numbness.
Brief answer....these symptoms appear to be withdrawl symptoms
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Withdrawl symptoms of CITALOPRAM are wide ranging and vague.
These include headache, nausea, vertigo, electric currents or numb feeling in arms or elsewhere.
Such symptoms generally occur from 1-7 days after discontinuation of medicines.
These are however, short lived and generally go of in couple of weeks time.
In general nothing is done,if the symptoms are mild.
In case, person complains of lot of symptoms, then the drug may be re introduced in small dose and then tapered off gradually.
There is nothing to worry as everything should settle soon.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
