What Causes Occasional Bleeding During Sex?
Question: I find that I occassionally bleed during sex with my partner. I have talked to my doc and taken all of the tests, I don't have an std, or a polyp, or abnormal cells on my cervix, or cancerous cells in my uterus. My doc says I have a sensitive cervix that, when touched, bleeds. She suggested using a softcup during sex to catch any blood, if there is any, but that isn't comfortable. I wonder if a Today sponge would be effective, not only as birth control but could it absorb the blood?
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, I understand your health issues. In my opinion you are a little sensitive about the issue and that there is nothing to worry about it as it is very common to have a little staining after sexual activity especially in mid cycle when the hormone levels are very high and thus respond in a wild way.
There is no need to use today sponge and any other measure to absorb it.
But still you need a 6 monthly Pap smear examination to keep a check on cervical cancer.
All the best.

Actually, the last time it was very significant. I felt like I had my period. (which I didn't.) which is why I went to my doctor for tests, biopsy etc... she suggested the softcup to contain any bleeding but we don't like it. I'm curious if the sponge would absorb it. Everything I've read says not to use a Today sponge if you're bleeding but I assume that's during your period and not due to contact with the cervix during sex.
Could it possibly absorb the bleeding? or since it's already wet and full of spermicide, maybe it can't absorb the blood as well?

Brief Answer:
colposcopy advised
Detailed Answer:
No dear, it will definitely absorb some of the blood but that will coagulate in the sponge and then will be messy to remove and manage.
In my opinion it is not a good idea at all.
If it recurrs again then get a colposcopy done in a proper way to see for any abnormal vessels or varicose veins if present.
In case everything is normal then nothing to worry but in case abnormal vessels are seen then they will need cautry which is a simple opd procedure.
