What Causes Occasional Pain In The Epigastric Region?
Question: 12 year old healthy granddaughter has occasional pain which causes her to lie down for at least 24 hours and then she is fine.
Pain appears to be high stomach below diaphragm but no problem breathing.

Such a pain generally occurs due to gastritis or gastro-oesophageal reflux. The gastric acids are secreted all through the day and are meant to help in digestion. But sometimes excess acids gets collected in the stomach. This could either reflux into the lower part of the oesophagus or could damage the inner wall of the stomach. In either case, she could get a pain like this.
The solution could be:
* Taking omeprazole once daily before breakfast.
* Taking small but frequent meals and avoiding long gaps between meals.
* Avoiding spicy and oily food.
