What Causes One-sided Body Shivering When Awake In An Elderly Man?
Question: hello Dr. Rynne.
my father is 68. one side of his body shakes for the whole day while he is awake. he is not able to control it. because of this, he is not able to eat himself and manage his other daily chores himself.
has a family history of this ailment....mother, an elder brother, an elder sister. not all siblings have this issue.
this problem has been existing for many years but has increased significantly of late.
by nature, he is restless and impatient.
could you kindly suggest the treatment for him ?
- Thanks and Best Regards,

Brief Answer:
Medical treatment is possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.
I have noted the symptoms of your father. Based on that, the possible diagnosis are: 1. Essential (familial) tremors, 2. Parkinson's disease.
An examination by neurologist would be able to confirm the diagnosis.
Medical treatment is available for both the conditions, but only after examining the patient.
Please get back with follow-up queries.
Best wishes,
