What Causes Oral Thrush After Taking Antibiotics?
Question: Hi, I have been taking 2 types of antibiotics and bismuth for the past 2 weeks for a h pylori infection. I developed some oral thrush as a result of the high dosage of antibiotics. For the last 4 days I've been rinsing my mouth with water and some bicarbonate of soda (didn't drink it but kept it in my mouth for a while and may have ingested some) This has really helped clear up the thrush but I'm just a bit concerned about the amount of salt I may have taken in?
Brief Answer:
No need to worry about salt intake.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
Well don't worry about the salt intake. Anything excess salt in the body will be thrown out in the urine.
If it is really thrush only salt water gargling might not help. You need to gargling with Anti fungal solution like candid oral paint. Kindly ask your doctor for the prescription.
Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.
Regards.

Thank you, I just needed a little reassurance as I have a heart condition (non obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and thought that it may not be good for me to use bicarbonate of soda.
Brief Answer:
Relax.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Don't worry , 2 weeks is a short duration . The excess salt will be removed by the body . But long term ( like for a month or more ) intake of salt may slightly affect the health.
But in future also if the need arises to take high salt for longer duration, you can ask for a Medicine called Lasix which removes excess salt from the body. But now its not needed.
Regards.
Relax.
