What Causes Oral Thrush In An Infant?
Question: Hello Dr.
My baby is born on 1st July 2014 and his weight is 6.15 KG and his age is now 7 months.
Current medications are as follows:
Macalvit ,
Uprise D3
Raricap L
From today we started with below medications as my baby is not taking good quantity of feed
Domstal baby and
RANTAC SYRUP
Now problem is yesterday we saw that on his tongue there thick white layer and above that black patch.
please advise what could be the reason behind this and let us know if this is seviour and if required please suggest the medications.
We tried to rub that layer by figures but we could not remove that..

Thanks for writing to us
The description you have given looks like oral thrush.
This is not serious .
It is a fungal ( candidiasis) infection.
Do send us some pictures to identify better.
This is very common in this age.
I usually rrecommend.candid mouth paint twice a day for a week.
This will clear the rash.
Continue supplements as you are giving now.
