What Causes Osteoporosis?
Question: 36 year old, active female Vyanse for Adult ADD prescribed in September. Third day of immobility. Heres some background info: Doc. increased dosage from 40 to 50 to 60mgs and added 10 mg Adderall taken 1-2 times a day. Weight loss from 167 pounds in September to 147 pounds April. Diagnosed with osteoporosis in March after having knee locking on a run as I was marathon-training. Pain went away after a week, recently( 3 days ago) experiencing pain in knees and terrible weakened strength in upper quads. Inability to stand for a sustained time, feeling as if knees will buckle. Tightness in both legs. Did ADD meds do this to me? I've never had joint pain or this type of muscle reaction in my life. I was a healthy runner training for a marathon. Now I cannot even walk without limping or hunching over and having to rest. Took off work Friday because of lack of mobility. Went to have blood work done to see if nutrient deficiency. What do I do now?

2. Are you still on the medications or have your stopped them?
3. Did the medicines help you with the ADD symptoms?

I first started experiencing weak and painful legs one day about a week ago and then again everyday since Thursday. I am still taking the Vyvanse and adderall. They have been helpful with focus. I have been taking Adderall in addition to the Vyvanse for about 2-3 months. Oh and I met to say I developed osteoarthritis in February not osteoporosis
Brief Answer:
Adderal and Vyanase can cause osteoarthritis
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for all the folllow-up information. Sorry for the delay from my side as there were some technical problems.
Well both adderall and Vyanase are implicated in the causation of Osteoarthritis although not very commonly. They can cause the osteoarthritis either by any allergic reaction or by a chronic bone resorption due to increased sympathetic activity.
The other problems that you have of locking of knee, weakness of quadriceps, immobility, are all secondary to oseto-arthritis.
I understand that your focus has improved but as the medications are causing such side-effects, they need to be discontinued. As you have mentioned, there are problems with the weight as well. Bupropion is a good option for ADD in adults and has relatively less side-effects.
For osteoarthritis that has developed you need to take calcium supplementation, and need to do quadriceps exercises as well. You may discontinue the medicines, and then take an ortho consultation for the same.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
