What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Finger After Injury?
Question: Hello there, I am in NZ and my R) pointing finger got very painful and swollen after an hour of gardening. I think It is due to getting pricked by a XXXXXXX bush thorn through the garden gloves. I have been to my GP after 3 days of incident. He gave me some Erythromycin 400mcg to take for 48hrs then come back for review. I went back as the finger still very painful, to move or touch. Second doc did Xray - nad, bloods for any CRP and chnaged my meds to Cephalexin 500mg 4x day and Metranidazole. I had severe diarrhea soon after Metranidazole so have stopped it. but still taking Cepha'. My finger tip is slightly discoloured to bluish not very bad but just a lil, and still the same amount of pain upon trying to use for doing dishes or writing. Please help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to Health care magic,
I have seen the pictures. Best treatment for you--
Take Epsom salt (mag sulph) powder and mix with equal amount of glycerine/any antibiotic cream, apply liberally all round the finger and bandage.
It will draw out all fluids and any thorn that may be lodged in and not seen.
Change dressing daily.
You'll be fine in 3-5 days. No need of further antibiotic.
Just take a good B complex with vitamin C and Zinc.
You can revert back--regards
