What Causes Pain And Swelling In Thigh Post Knee Replacement Surgery?

Question: had a full knee replacement about 4 weeks ago. pt going well, 2 or 3 times perwk. last pt 2 days ago and I have a lot of swelling from my thigh to my ankle on knee replaced leg. why so much swelling, all of a sudden and what can I do to bring down the swelling and the pain

Do you have fever, pain while bearing weight and walking ?

Is it warmer to touch on your operated knee?

If it's possible you are having swelling due to vigorous physiotherapy. Other causes can be infection, implant loosening, etc.

Keep your limb elevated over a pillow. Apply hot water bag. This shall reduce the oedema.

It is wise to get an Xray and discuss with your Doctor about it, especially if you have fever. You need to get your blood counts as well.
