Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. To understand better I would like to know -
1.Is there any trauma to great toe/ball of foot?
2.what is the duration of pain and is it warm, red and tender to touch?
3.Do you have chronic disease and what medicine do you take?
For now you may do Ice fomentation, rest, limb elevation along with Ibuprofen.
Looking forward to your reply.
Take care

The pain just started out of the blue (although I did wear fancy high heels to a party a couple of weeks ago). Oddly enough, the pain is worse when I wake up in the morning, then subsides as the day goes on. it is indeed a little rosier than my other foot. I don't have any chronic disease. My sister thought it might be gout, but that's in the toe, right? My toe does not hurt, except when I flex the ball. Could it have been those attractive (but dangerous) shoes? It was after all, more than a 10 days ago!
Brief Answer:
It's recommended to rule out gout

Hi
It's good to see you.
I have gone through your reply carefully and it is my sincere advice to have blood test (serum uric acid) to rule out gout. As it is the most common site that is the junction of great toe and foot (metatarsophangeal joint). If possible you may send/upload the picture of foot in your reply.
Do you have a family history of joint pain?
Meanwhile you may follow the suggestion as discussed earlier. Avoid wearing high heel fancy shoes routinely.
Wishing you good health.
Regards
