Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Extreme pain in the kidney area is usually caused by kidney stone. The pain can radiate downward to the groin. It comes and goes suddenly. The main reason for kidney stone pain is smooth muscles spasm. Non of mentioned pain killers do not revert the spasm. Moreover, Vicodin can cause smooth muscles spasm making the pain even worse.
In case of kidney stone it is very important to find out if the stone is not too large to pass ureter and if there is no kidney blockage. That is why you should have abdominal ultrasound done at first.
To help with the pain you should use medicines like Metamizole, Buscolisine or Petidine. You should also drink plenty of mineral water (2-3 liters a day) and start some physical activity so the stone can be moved down (like jumping or running).
Hot bath should be also helpful as it relaxes smooth muscles as well.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
?Urinary infection,?renal stone,?bulging disc

Detailed Answer:
Hi there...

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Any history of burning urination, increased frequency of urination, fever, lower abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting?

I would advise you to do first get certain investigations done,eg. urine routine and microscopy, urine culture and sensitivity, Blood investigations like blood urea, serum creatinine, serum uric acid , abdominal ultrasound to visualise the kidneys, ureters, bladder etc.
The above investigations will help in diagnosing a urinary tract infection, renal stones, etc.

Another cause for the back pain, might be the bulging disc.

Meanwhile drink plenty of fluids, a glass of cranberry juice .

Hope my answer is helpful to you.

Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan

Not so good after a ultra sound they determined it was my disc in my back. The pain on muscle relaxers and pain pills is still extreme with my arm and leg falling asleep. I think my body has gotten use to the 7.5/325 vicodins. it is not helping like it use to it is getting hard to be on my feet and sleeping is not as easy. I have a MRI scheduled on thrusday and a dr apt tomorrow. Don't know what else they can do the numbness and sharp pains is making me depressed I just want to feel normal.

Hi there

Detailed Answer:
Hi there..

Thanks for writing in.

Please avoid any activities which involve bending and avoid lifting heavy weights.

MRI might help in finding out the extent, and the cause of worsening symptoms.

In the meantime, drink enough fluids. It might also help to get certain blood tests done; your Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, serum calcium . In some cases, taking Vitamin B12 preparations might help.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
