What Causes Pain Around Prominentia Laryngea And Belching Up Of White Mucus?

Question: Hello. Since about six months back I've been having problems with my throat. At first, I had a very strong and concentrated pain around the Adam's apple, coming from seemingly nowhere. Since then, I've had various of problems. I am a singer, but haven't been able to sing properly because of pain when trying to reach higher notes. I used to believe that food got stuck in my throat, because I felt a lump-like sensation at the same location I'd felt the pain, and I also coughed/burped out big pieces of undigested food, even as long as 4 hours after consuming it. After a few months of burping up food, I decided to quit trying to get the food out, as I figured it might not be stuck in my throat at all. It got better, but I'm still burping up lots of white, thick mucus-like phlegm, sometimes still containing pieces of undigested food. Sometimes it smells acid-like, but most of the time it doesn't. Often, I feel the need to burp and I get a sensation that the air is blocked in the upper part of my throat (around the vocal cords) because it feels clogged, and when I push the burp I get lots of phlegm coming up, which I have to spit out. I do not experience any pain anymore. However, I'm eating less since these problems often get worse after I've eaten. I'm a daily smoker, about 2 cigarettes a day. I'm wondering what's causing these problems and how I can solve them. Thank you in advance!

Brief Answer:
You need to start the treatment for this issue of multifactorial cause.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Your disease has the following interlinked probable causes:-
*The top most is the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. The stomach acid comes upwards and it is causing throat irritation and a lump feeling inside the throat and a feeling of air bubbles around vocal cords and the acid like burps etc etc....All of these are due to this issue and this is the main reason of your so long illness.I feel sorry that you remained in pain far long. But don't worry as this can be overcomed with the medications.
*Singer's use more the vocal cords and it causes irritation and injury to the cords. Same is with teachers and Hawkers. This is called Singer's cords.
*Cigarettes do raise this irritation manifolds.
*All of this is causes the airway infection and the phlegm is all coming from there.

Management:-
*Refrain from cigarette as much as you can for fast recovery.
*Give rest to your vocal cords. If you can do easily please avoid singing at high notes or altogether refrain for sometime.
*Avoid coffee, tea, energy drinks, caffeinated drinks, spices and fried junk foods.
*Take water only before the meals.
*Juices and vegetables only or fish. No meats and chicken. Proteins and junk western diet causes production of organic acids and lead to get the situation worst.

Medication guide:-
If I was your treating physician I would have prescribed you with;
*Dexilant.
*Azithromycin.
*Ondansetron.
*Loratadine

You will get better in no time with this treatment. Start immediately.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.
