Question: My daughter has internal pain just below the sternum. Blood tests and X-rays show nothing. The pain is greatest when she is standing and minimal when she is in a prone position.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound and CT scan may be needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what your daughter is experiencing lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be muscular as it is related to posture but possibility of Internal structural diseases like any hernia or defect inside diaphragm may present like this however association with gastric symptoms like regurge or feeling of bone impaction behind sternum or acidity may or may not be present.

However next possible investigation would be ultrasound to rule out any evident pathology in gall bladder and pancreas. If pain is severe and associated with extreme tenderness on pressing at the site, it may need to be evaluated on blood workup like liver functions as well amylase. CT abdomen can also be helpful and may be asked too. if all these are unremarkable endoscopy of upper GI tract may be needed.

Meanwhile keep using OTC analgesics like acetaminophen avoiding NSAIDS and antacids like omeperazole and antispasmodic like drotaverine may be helpful.

Wishing her a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
