What Causes Pain During And After Intercourse?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I had a hysterectomy 7 yrs ago and I'm a breast cancer survivor of 20+ yrs. Having sex is very painful for me but this morning I decided to try again, lubed up and it was going ok for awhile. All of a sudden, I felt a sharp pain and for the last 3 hrs, I have a very full, uncomfortable feeling, almost like menstrual pain. It hasn't gotten worse but not better either. It's a holiday weekend and I'm not sure what to do.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
You can take vaginal lubricant

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thanks for your query.

I understand your concern.

Pain during and after intercourse is due to:
vaginal dryness ( lack of estrogens )
vaginal narrowing ( from hysterectomia
there is no definite way to prevent pain, but some measure can be taken to reduce it.
1. good hygiene and routine medical care will help to some degree.
2. adequate for play and stimulation will help to ensure proper lubrication of vagina.
3. use of a water-soluble lubricant like K-Y jelly may also help. vaseline should not be used as sexual lubricant since it is not water soluble and may encourage vaginal infections.
4. change position during intercourse.
5. communicate your problem with your partner.
Now you can use pain- killers like paracetamol, ibuprofen and vaginal lubricant
