default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: I took my pills before going to bed and now I have pain in my chest and up the right side of my jaw, like I swallowed them wrong. I already made myself throw up thinking that would help, but it didnt. Any suggestions.

Hello and welcome,

The symptom you are having are most likely from acid reflux caused by irritation from the pills. Lying down after taking pills can increase the ability of the acid to come up into the esophagus and cause chest and neck/jaw pain.

If you are still quite uncomfortable, consider getting some Zantac 150 mg from an all night Walgreens or other drug store that stays open late. If you can't do that and have some calcium carbonate or Tums or Rolaids or Mylanta, take that.

If you don't have access to any of the above, have a small amount of bland food that you find easy to digest such as milk, toast, apple sauce, or banana.

Stay up at least 1/2 hour after eating tonight.

In the future, stay up for 1/2 hour after taking your pills if possible.

I hope this helps and you feel better soon. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
