What Causes Pain In Groin Area In A Person With Breast Cancer?
Question: I have intermittent but extremely severe pain in my groin on the right side. I have Stage IV breast cancer, diabetes (w insulin) and am being treated with medication for high blood pressure (which is stable and normal now as is my high cholesterol). l Have gone to the ER because of the pain which was worse than labor. They found no blood in my urine and so dismissed kidney stones. I had a PET and CT scan a month ago which showed nothing in the area. I have not had an attack like the one that sent me to the ER since that first one but I do have periodic twinges that cause me to lie down and not move to avoid aggravating n. If the cancer has moved to a lymph node in the groin could it produce that much pain? The ER doc said it was my appendix and wasn't situated in a spot that would normally suggest kidney stones. Any ideas? Pain is in right groin and radiates up the side and down the right leg when in full aggravation.

Also forgot - I have an IVC filter in the vena cava which was placed by going through my leg. When pain radiated down my leg it goes to the inside of my leg to the arch of my foot. Where it radiates up is not so specific.

The PET/CT scan showed no evidence of disease but the PET scan showed some activity in the liver that was not corroborated by the CT scan. I had an MRI of my liver last Friday. Should get results on Mon.

Brief Answer:
Vertebral compression of nerves due to metastasis ?
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
zi read your query and saw the reports.
Following is my reply:
1) Most lossy reason for the groin pain is lymph node enlargement which should be detected by MRI.
2) The other possibility is metastasis of cancer to vertebra and causing vertebral compression.
3) MRI aid spine is required to identify involvement of vertebrae. Vertebral compression of nerve causes such pain and also the pain going down to foot on inner side. Please look for metastatic lesions in vertebra.
4) This is possible as PET scan shows liver metastasis.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
