What Causes Pain In Head After Having Pulled Feeling In Tongue?
Question: Tonight I was playing with my dog. I stuck out my tongue at him while my jaw was in a weird way. I felt a pop or pull feeling. I had this really intense pain in my head. Through the top, behind my nose, through the back of my head. It hurt really badly. I'd say about a 9-10 on the pain scale. Well that went away. Now my tongue hurts and so does my throat. My tongue is kind of swollen, but not to the point it's cutting off my air flow. It hurts to swallow, yawn or anything that requires the muscles in the tonuge to move. My head it starting to bother me. It also hurts to talk.
Brief Answer:
Visit the ER
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through the query. There seems to be two possibilities:
* Temporo-mandibular joint dislocation (the hinge like joint in front of the ear that moves as you open your jaw)
* Some maladjustment of the glottis or epiglottis
In any case you should visit the ER and get yourself examined. Your throat needs to be checked and so does your tongue. It is hard to comment without examining you clinically. As of now gurgling with lukewarm water should help.
Regards

But I have no pain in my jaw or my mouth. The only pain is my tongue and back of neck and it making any movement with my tongue. Is there nothing that can be done except for going to the ER?
Brief Answer:
Gurgle with lukewarm water.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for clarifying.
If you have no pain involving the jaw and the angle, temporo-mandibular joint dislocation can be ruled out.
As such gurgling with lukewarm water should provide relief. But to be certain about the exact scenario I would need to examine you clinically but that is clearly beyond scope. For example, if you could simply have sore throat where erythema of throat could be present.
As of now, be patient and try gurgling a few times a day. Also take cetirizine tablet once a day. If the situation improves, its fine. If not, visit the ER.
