What Causes Pain In Heels After Taking Testosterone Injections ?
Question: I have had three testosterone injections in the last 35 days.My level was 313 at age 76. My p.s.a. Was .6 and a normal digital exam. I take 20 mg. of simvastatin and 5mg. Of Coumadin for afib. Sunday morning I couldn't walk on my left heel.I called my primary Internist yesterday and she ordered some Colchicine. Can this gout that I think it is be caused by the testosterone injections. I don't know my Uric acid level or if uric acid crystals are present. I am better today but is it from testosterone injections??Thank You
Brief Answer:
I think it can be gout.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well, looking into your problem I would like to tell you that I feel it is most likely because of gout and your doctor has rightly recommended that. It is unlikely that testosterone would have acted so swiftly plus gout is a very common problem in people of your age.
Was your ankle swollen when you wake up in morning? any history of redness over it? If you tell the history well, it will help us to be more conclusive. Please let me know in detail regarding the pain episode. Also I would like to know if you take alcohol.
Awaiting your response.

Dr.Shruti:I now have edema in my left foot but the pain is almost gone. Can I take furosemide for the swelling that we have at home? I have an app't with a Rheumatologist/NP on 12/06/014. Can I resume allopurinol now after 3 doses of colchicine? I never had any redness and I don't drink alcohol or eat lots of red meats. Why am I having edema? Thank You. Theodore Berg

Dear XXXXXXX
Thank you for reverting back.
No you should not take furosemide as the edema you are having is inflammatory edema rather than fluid accumulation so it will not be helpful. I would treat you with colchicine for at least till the time swelling is almost gone then only allopurinol can be started otherwise it may worsen the pain. Colchicine is not available over the counter.
Plus wait till your rheumatologist sees you , first attack is not an indication for starting long term treatment so let him see you first then we can decide further.
