steroid induced osteoporosis may be a cause

Hello,
Thanks for writing.
I have gone through your query, the most likely cause for your suffering is hip and knee osteoarthritis for this may get x-ray done to confirm the same and send the x-ray picture to me. For this you may have tablet ultracet semi as pain killer under medical guidance beside taking glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate as they help in cartillage regeneration.
The pain just above the ankle could be because of osteoporosis (bone weakness),induced by long term use of prednisone. My advice would be take weekly dose of tablet alensol D which inhibit bone resorption, after having discussion with your treating doctor.Take diet rich in calcium (1000mg/day) and vitamin D(1000 i.u./day) for bone weakness.
Hope this helps.
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query.

Cellulitis may be a cause needs examination

Hello
It’s good to see you
First of all please accept my apologies as I read it that you are on prednisone for years. The injection cortizone gives excellent results when given inside the joint (intra articular) but the results are temporary and may last for unpredictable period (2-5 months) .They should not be given for more than 3 injections in a year.
As the hip joint is deep seated it is uncommon and difficult to give as compare to the other joints. This may be given under ultra sonograpy guidance. Prednisone has results in 24 – 72 hour time. But you may get x-ray done to see the early sign of osteoarthritis.
As far as pain and swelling above ankle is concern it may a skin and soft tissue infection that is cellulitis. It is a common bacterial skin infection. It may first appear as a red, swollen area that feels hot and tender to the touch. The redness and swelling often spread rapidly. Cellulitis is usually painful. It is treatable with preferred antibiotics like augmentin along with wound dressing and pain killer.
You may play golf once the cellulitis is ruled out by physical examination and blood test. You may have a word with your doctor what so ever has been discussed between us.
Hope this information suffices
Wishing you good health
