Question: from few days I am experiencing pain in my left leg joint. the problem is not felt if I walk or climb up/down straircases. but if i continuously sit or squat for long time i feel accute pain, it takes few minutes to subside. i had shown it to our company doctor and he recommended to take few pain killer and also volini gel to apply. the pain is felt on the side muscles (right side of the joint) of the joint and not with the bone/knee cap.

Brief Answer: Likely to be due to muscle spasm Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. Pain at the side of your left knee is likely to be due to muscle spasm in the area. You need to do muscle strengthening and stretching exercises around knee to strengthen the muscle and to relive the spasm. Doing hot fomentation and applying muscle relaxant gel will be helpful. Eat a diet rich in fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, nuts, milk, eggs, pulses and cereals. Drink 1-2 litres of water daily. Do brisk walking exercise for 40 minutes daily. Get 6-8 hours of refreshing sleep daily. If the pain and spasm is persistant even after these measures, then I suggest you to get it evaluated by an orthopaedician for examination. He may advise you for the xray of knee to see any bony changes. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
