Question: Hello,
I have been having some moderate ache on lower abdomen and back, its my lower right side. It started last monday after a hard day of cleaning, lots of bending, I thought maybe I pulled a muscle, well its now over a week later and the ache is still there. It seems to get better when laying down, worse when moving and bending over(sore feeling). Is this a muscle strain? I had some concerns of appendix. It doesnt hurt to touch my abdomen or back.
Brief Answer:
looks like a muscle strain only

Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Your symptoms are most probably of muscle strain only, as your pain gets aggravated by doing the same action that has caused it (bending down).
Regarding appendicitis, its pain usually starts first at the umbilicus and then after a day or two shifts down to the right. Also its not related to postural changes. And it may be associated with fever and/or vomiting, with pain increasing on pressing the abdomen at that site.
I would suggest that you take a course of painkillers along with a muscle relaxant for a week. But for the prescription, you need to visit your local doctor. Also, while sleeping, lie on your back on a hard bed with a thin pillow. And maintain correct back posture during day and work.
Hope that i have been helpful.
