Began to notice spasm in the center of buttocks and general mild pain in lower back wrapping around hip bones etc.

Carry bags through airports and fly a lot.

No medical issues but may need to MRI lower spine if symptoms persist.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
It can be a disc herniation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Based on your replies, I believe that it might be a disc herniation in the back. The herniated disc causes pinching of nerve in spine leads to spasm like pain in hip region. MRI of the back will definitely be helpful. Visit an orthopedic and plan for it soon.

Until MRI reports are available, I start my patients on.
1. Tablet pregabalin and methyocobal one daily at night time.
2. Back extension exercises.
3. Avoid weight lifting and forward bending.
You may discuss about these with your treating doctor.

I hope these steps will help you. Please send me your MRI report. I will try to give you my suggestion according to that. Thanks and take care.
