What Causes Pain In Lower Pelvic Region?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Jul 2014
Question: I have a dull pain (at times sharp) in my lower left pelvic region. Today for some reason is was really bad. Hurt so much when I walked, I was limping. About a week ago, I saw what I thought was bright red blood in my stool. (I'm not certain because I had fresh beet juice that week). I am 52 yr old, AA female. 2 live (natural, vaginal) pregnancies, 2 abortions, 1 miscarriage. I also have Type II Diabetes, that is controlled with oral meds.

Brief Answer:
could be diverticulitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms are suggestive of diverticulitis, and its commonly seen at your age.

I would suggest that you get a repeat colonoscopy done to look for the same. Also it will screen your entire large bowel for any other pathology.

Other possibility is of left ureteric stone. But that won't cause blood in stools, but you are not sure of that. For this you will need an ultrasound of your abdomen.

Further management will depend upon the report of these tests. Till then you may take any painkillers for the pain.

Hope i have been helpful.

Regards,
Dr. Ashish Verma
