What Causes Pain In Lower Right Abdomen With Nausea?
thrown up. I am a 76 years old woman who had an intestinal bypass in 1973 for obesity and do
frequently experience gas and diarrhea. At first I thought this was severe gas, but I am unable to pass
gas and the pain remains. No elevation in temperature. Do you feel this is an appendicitis attack?
It is possible that it is appendicitis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
I am sorry you are having so much pain. Lower right abdominal pain with nausea is always concerning for the possibility of appendicitis. Particularly if there is increased pain with walking, or any jarring movements or coughing. But not all of these symptoms need to be present to have an appendicitis. Also, appendicitis tends to progress or not get better.
Other things can cause this type of pain too, such as gas and infections, which it looks like you have considered with the Gas-X and Bisthmus tablets.
There are other causes of right lower abdominal pain too, including ureteral stones and ureteral colic.
I think you should go in to be evaluated tonight. If your urgent care clinics or ERs used Physicians Assistants or Nurse Practitioners in addition to physicians, request to see a physician. They will check your vitals including temperature, observe you overall, palpate your abdomen, and possibly get an abdominal X-ray and a CBC. He or she may have you wait in the ER for a period of observation. And if there is a high suspicion for appendicitis then they will call in a surgeon to examine you.
So please do go in but know that it may not be appendicitis. But better to err on the side of caution with this.
