Brief Answer:
Mammography is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Pain of a nipple and breast can be caused by several reasons including an inflammation in the breast, some hormonal changes and unfortunately can be a sign of breast cancer.
Unfortunately, without additional tests it is impossible to answer which is the most probable reason of your pain. Moreover, there is a kind of breast cancer which can act like an inflammation.
So the only way I can help you is to ask you to consult gynecologist as soon as possible. Mammography is the first test you should have. Depending of its result further tests might be necessary.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
