Question: I was diagnosed with h pylori about 4 months ago. Symptoms were pain on my rib cage right side above liver and on my back mid high up on right side. Took antibiotics to get rid of it. Still have both pains come and go. After I eat certain foods or drink alcohol sometimes. Before I was diagnosed we thought it was my gallbladder and I got tested but was negative. Ultrasound revealed a mild fatty liver and was told to lose weight. Now I'm wondering that it's my liver causing the pain or could it still be the inflammation from the h pylori?

Brief Answer:
May be costochondritis- please give detailed history.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.

Read and understood your history about pain as explained, H.pylori, fatty liver.

To recapitulate: 45 / Male - Symptoms of pain ''on rib cage'', right side, above liver and on your back - high up on right side.
Diagnosed as H. pylori - took antibiotics mid-January - both pains continue - with certain foods and alcohol sometimes - GB negative- mild fatty liver -

From reading the history carefully, I was wondering that you have pain on the rib cage and mid-back high up.
Such type of pains can be due to Costochondritis or a problem in the high back radiating to the front portion. These are usually not associated with any abdominal conditions.

I would advise you to get a proper clinical evaluation, actual physical examination of the painful area to see whether there is a local tenderness on the rib cage by a General Surgeon. This will help to get a proper clinical diagnosis. Then only further tests like MRI of the thoracic spine and of the chest wall can be done to get an appropriate diagnosis. The General Surgeon will also help to see if there is any abdominal pathology causing such a pain. Clinical diagnosis is very important.

Fatty liver does not cause any pain at all.
To rule out any abdominal condition you can undergo the tests of CT scan of the abdomen and a repeat Upper GI Endoscopy to see whether there is any gastic condition or not.

I hope this answer helps you to go into the right direction for proper diagnosis, which is very important for proper diagnosis.

Please feel free to ask for further relevant questions or if you feel that there is a gap-of-communication.

We can discuss anything you would like to get the clear idea about. I would happy to read again the exact history about the pain, when was it started, how did it get progressed, any associated complaints and so on, I shall be very happy to assist you more.

I still have pain but it happens after I eat. I've noticed the same pain after I drink alcohol sometimes. I've quit drinking but concerned about my liver. What would you recommend to do?
