What Causes Pain In Right Upper Abdomen?

Question: Hi I have been having occasional pain in my right upper abdomen on and off for a couple years. I also belch alot when I am feeling this pain. I ended up in the ER a year and a half ago because the pain was so intense I doubled over. When the ER doctor had pressed on my abdomen right below my ribs I about jumped out of the bed. The Doctor immediately stated he believed it to be my Gallbladder. I had a CT Scan and also another test where they put a XXXXXXX in the Gallbladder to see if it is functioning properly. All tests showed that nothing was wrong. I haven't had the pain that bad since, however when I eat fatty foods the pain returns.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Your doctor did the right thing by suspecting gallbladder issue based on the severe abdominal pain you have in the right upper abdomen.
But since the Ct scan of the abdomen and the ?scintigraphy scan of the gallbladder showed only a normal gallbladder, the next thing to look for as the possible cause for your abdominal pain is peptic ulcer disease.
An upper GI endoscopy may be done to look for peptic ulcer.
You can take prilosec for relief.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
