What Causes Pain In The Left Groin Area?

default
Posted on Sat, 2 May 2015
Question: Woke up this morning I was fine then gradually had an ache in the left groin area. The ache gradually has increased. Then I came over very hot and my skin was wet all over and I felt a little sick. The ache has become a pain and now the left testicle hurts when touched. Difficult to know which position is most comfortable. Have recently had a urinary infection which didn't clear up properly the first time and returned after a few days and went back on to antibiotics. This seemed to have cleared up for the last few days then woke to this groin problem.

You have acute infection of either Epididymis or Testis.

secondary to incomplete treated UTI.However this can be confirmed only on clinical examination by a qualified General Surgeon or Urologist.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you have swelling of the left testis?

Please consult general surgeon for clinical examination and get following basic tests done under his guidance to confirm the diagnosis .
1)Routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.
2) Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and Scrotum
3)Color Doppler study of scrotum.

In the mean while start taking broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and anti inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

There appears to be a swelling from above the penis on the left side right down to the testicle which looks also swollen. The pain is mostly felt above and to the left of the penis and the testicle when touched.
I still have some Nitrofurantoin which I will continue to take.

Is the reason it has not cleared up in the past few weeks (urinary infection which has moved) because I was only on the antibiotics for one week at a time and not the three weeks you suggest?
Testicle more swollen and tender now and sometimes ache right across the lower abdomen similar to a stomach ache but appears different. Still the pain to the left and above the penis.
I appear to be going to the toilet normally with little if no discomfort.
Thank you in anticipation for further help and suggestions.

I am getting concerned as I have been taking the pills for a few days now. Although some of the pain has gone which allows me to do some things more freely but my testicle is nearly three times its normal size and shows no sign of the swelling reducing. My scrotum which is red which I expected started to itch yesterday afternoon and also today. Yesterday evening I also started to feel a stinging while urinating which it hasn't done for well over a week although a much better today.
How long will it take before the swelling goes down?

Brief Answer:
Have you done tests which I have suggested in my reply earlier.?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.

Swelling of the testicle could be due to infection of the Testicle itself (Orchitis) or due to secondary hydrocele which can be confirmed only by doing Ultrasound Scanning of the scrotum.

You will have to take appropriate antibiotics antibiotic and anti inflammatory drugs at least for a period of 4 weeks to get it cured .

Thanks and Regards.
