What Causes Pain In The Right Leg When Diagnosed With Arthritis?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Nov 2017
Question: I fell last night and am having a lot of pain which doesn't seem to be helped by painkillers. It's in my right leg, my bad leg. I have arthritis and my knee needs to be replaced, but I refused because of my age. When I fell, I must have twisted my leg. now I can't walk and the pain is on the left side of my leg, behind my knee, around the cochsic, (?),my shin, lower back, and foot. I can't get to the doctor who would probably send me to the hospital for an x-ray. The hospital is an hour away, so I know I can't make that trip.

Brief Answer:
Can be internal knee injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You must have hurt your internal structures in knee due to fall, which are anterior/posterior cruciate ligament, medial/lateral collateral ligament, medial and lateral menisci, joint capsule, synovium, crossing muscles, bone cartilage and bone itself. It needs proper clinical examination and relevant investigations to diagnose which among these is hurt.
These are best visualized on MRI (Magnetic Resonant Imaging).
I advise you to-

1. Take rest. It plays a key role in decreasing pain and inflammation.

2. Stop weight bearing on the leg, at least until the symptoms are under control.

3. Apply cold packs and take anti-inflammatory medications like Motrin to calm pain and inflammation.
A pair of knee supports can add to stability. But that again depends on your exact condition. If you don't get relief, proceed with MRI.
I hope this answers your query.
