default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: If I am hypothyroid and on replacement and sometimes get an ache or pain in the area of the thyroid is this something to be concerned with or possibly a sign that my TSH value is too high or low? I regularly have my TSH checked.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about!

Detailed Answer:
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I can understand your concern.

Even though you didn't mention, i suppose your diagnosis is Hashimoto thyroiditis. It is an autoimmune disease causing an destruction of the thyroid gland and as a result an under active gland.
If you check the TSH regularly and it is within the normal ranges than hypothyroidism is ruled out.

Being an autoimmune disease, there are periods when the inflammatory process is more increased an manifests with aches in the thyroid region, but there is nothing to worry about.

I would suggest to do an ultrasound of the thyroid gland and rule out the presence of any nodule, because the patients diagnosed with Hashimoto have greater possibility to do nodules in the thyroid gland.

Hope i was helpful.
