Question: I have been having pain in the inside of my right thigh for about a month. I can't raise my leg more than about 12 inches off the floor. I also cannot cross my right leg over the left leg and need help putting a sock on my right foot.

Brief Answer:
Listed most likely causes for such a presentation sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. You would not believe me when I tell you that we get quite a few patients in the outpatient department with such complaints (I work in the orthopedic and traumatology department), but more often than not the patient does not belong to our department. Reason being that the cause for pain in the location described by you is the region of the adductor muscle and the pain is usually localised in the inner thigh and groin region. Most common causes for such a presentation are the following:

+Muscle strain: Can occur while turning suddenly, vigorous exercise (running, etc.), over-stretching of the muscle, etc. As your PA suspected, but this should be questioned if the pain lasts for too long. So it would be wise to look into the other causes listed below sir

+Kidney stones: Sounding strange to laymen, kidney stones (depending on their location) can cause pain in regions far from their own location like the inner thigh, groin, even the tip of the penis, etc. (all differing depending on their location)

+Inguinal hernia: Also a very common cause, and until ruled out I would recommend avoiding straining while passing your bowels, avoid exercise, and lifting of heavy objects

+Inflammation of bones or joints (osteoarthritis)

+Bone growth

+Relaxed pelvic ligament

All the causes vary and so I would recommend a visit to your doctor for a more elaborate evaluation sir. I hope you understand why that is required, and I would also encourage you to ask me any questions you have regarding the same. Please feel free to write to me about anything, anytime, I am always here to help you sir.

Best wishes.
