What Causes Pain In Upper Abdomen And Frequent Bowel Movement?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Mar 2016
Question: Hi.
I have had some stomach distress. It's been about 5 days now. I go to the bathroom and have a small bowel movement almost every hour. I'm tired and weak and today I am headachy. There has been viruses being passed at my son's school but he has been fine and i thought i was too. Today i have only eaten some rice and drank tea yet the small bowel movements keep going. I'm getting worried. I'm thinking if it's a virus, then it just has to pass through, but I don't want to pass it to my family.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It seems to be Gastroenteritis and needs management !!!

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcome. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.

I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

I feel sorry for the health issues you have. It is very awful experience indeed.

Usually it is a viral illness in the start but not always and bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract are also not uncommon. It seems more to be a bacterial infection and needs management accordingly.

Please Consult a Gastroenterologist for thorough evaluation and treatment as he is the personnel trained to handle such issues with success. You may go to the ER if you are unable to get the appointment in a timely fashion. He will need to go for a stool examination and culture and sensitivity and antibiotic can be changed accordingly.

If I was your treating Physician I would have prescribed you with RIFAXIMIN if not allergic to and of course a follow up after a week. Plus take Cap.OMEPRAZOLE (40mg Once Daily before breakfast), CITRUCEL DIETARY FIBER SUPPLEMENT and LOPERAMIDE. Take Oral Rehydration Solution for fluid and electrolyte replacement.

Keep hygiene better and avoid spread to family by washing hands after coming from restroom, before touching any food item etc. Take a bland diet and no spices, junks, beverages, chocolates and caffeinated drinks.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. For any disease you have, a timely follow-up is necessary regarding the treatment efficacy and to see if there is a need to change treatment options. So keep a follow up to see how you doing (Always write down my name in start of your questions at this forum & I will be with you in no time).
