What Causes Pain In Upper Chest Near Collarbone Extending To Left Shoulder?
Question: I have been experiencing for I'd say the last three days, pain in my upper left chest area around my collarbone, extending at times to my left shoulder, left side of neck, and every once in a while down 4 or 5 inches below my collarbone, it comes and goes and is usually fine when at rest but flares up every once in a while. I have tried breathing in deep to see if there is pain associated with that but there is not. Also it doesn't seem to be effect by shoulder motion or neck motion unless I really stretch my neck to one side hard. Should I be conceded with a possible heart or pulmonary problem or is this just muscle pain related. Thank You -XXXX
Brief Answer:
Need evaluation.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX!
Based only on your symptoms is very difficult to give a right answer. First I suggest you anti inflammatory medication with muscle relaxants. You can get this medication with your primary doctor prescription, If you will not feel better with medication then
I recommend to run the following examinations to rule out or in cardiac and pulmonary problems:
- ECG
- Cardiac echo
- stress test
- Chest xray
- abdominal ultrasound
If the results are all normal than it's more probably a muscle or skeletal pain. Let me know about reports.
Hope this answered all your queries!

Is there any way I can rule out cadriac or pulmonary problems without having to go see my primary physician, due to my insurance having high co-pays? Or are there any symptoms that would for sure rule out one or the other?
Brief Answer:
Go to ER.
