What Causes Pain Near Ribs, Headaches And Vision Problem After Eating Food?
Question: My husband has been having the following symptoms
After eating his noon meal he has pain just below his breast bone up to a level 6. When that has happened the blood rushes to his head creating a fierce pounding headache. Level 6 for pain. The headaches if very intense also affect his vision. He sees stars. These episodes have been going on for at least 2 weeks. He has seen two doctors and they do not seem to be able to determine what is wrong.
Last year in the fall he had a pulmonary thrombosis as well as a clot in his leg. For that condition he takes Xarelto daily.
Medicine he takes:
prednisone 5 mg for polymyalgia once a day
Xarelto 20mg daily to thin his blood
12.5 metoprolol daily to regulate heartbeat
81 mg aspirin for his heart
22.4 mg Nexium-2 daily in am

1. Reflux Oesophagitis : It could be secondary to Gastrooesophageal reflux
2. Hypertension : Hypertension even transient could lead to manifestation of intense headache
3. Vitreous opacity or Retina issue in the eye
I would suggest you the following
1. Thorough clinical examination and including measurements of blood pressure on multiple occasions
2. Fundus examination of the eye
3. 12 lead ECG
4. Antacid like Pantoprozole along with gastric motility increasing drug like Domperidone will be helpful.
5. Ensure intake of meals at regular time
6. Avoid sleeping immediately after consuming food
