What Causes Pain On Left Side Along With Difficulty Walking And Swollen Knee?

X-rays and MRI and opinion of an Orthopedic Surgeon
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your history and problems.
To recapitulate:
Female / 81 years - had a fall 4 weeks ago - pain on left - can not lie on left side - bad on walking - swollen leg and knee - thinks of severe internal bruising - examined by GP - who thought to be caused by previous fall - taking Panadol and Codeine - also have IBS - not eaten much constipation cleared ...
Since the pain is continued and there is swelling even after 4 weeks, it is necessary to watch for fractures, which is more likely to occur in old age even on trivial trauma. The hair-line or impacted fractures do allow walking in some cases, misleading the patient and the Doctor.
I would request you to go for:
X-rays of the affected parts which are painful / tender / swollen and of the hip joint also as there can be a missed impacted fracture.
MRI of the Knee as it can evaluate soft tissue injury also. MRI of the affected parts.
Opinion of an Orthopedic Surgeon .
Codeine is known to give constipation.
Care for IBS as before.
I hope this answer helps you to have a proper diagnosis and treatment.
