Question: Tonight I have had terrible 3 attacks of pain on my right side that seems to be under my right rib at the bottom.
Could this be a gall stone attack? I don't even know where my gall bladder is. At this moment I am not hurting.
however; it hits me like lightening. How frequent should this become before I go to the emergency room? Should I even go to the emergency room? I am not hurting at this moment.
Brief Answer:
you need to get an ultrasound
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
That pain can either be due to gall stones or kidney stone. Pain due to both is situated below the right rib. As both are situated at almost that level only.
If you are free from pain now, you may wait it out until you get to see the local physician. He/she can order for an ultrasound of your abdomen to differentiate between the two as management of both is different. You may try over the counter antispasmodic drugs like peppermint oil / peptobismol if you have no specific allergies.
I recommend ER visit not by the basis of frequency of pain rather severity of pain. At any point of time if you feel the pain is intolerable and persistent, do not hesitate consulting ER.
Hope I have been helpful.
