Posted on Sat, 24 Dec 2016
Question: Hello, I am concerned because I have pain on my right side, at the waist line, also I get pain under my shoulder blade when I eat. No fever. I take magniseum every day but my stools have developed an odor like clams.
My family suffers from gallbladder problems. The pain is minimal but I feel it most during a bowl movement. Also I burp a lot, a new issue.

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/76 - pain on right - at waist line - under shoulder blade when you eat - takes Magnesium every day - but stools have developed the an odor like clams - family history of gall bladder problems - more pain during bowel movement - new issue of burping a lot...

As per the history you have provided, this looks to be as follows:
The pain under the shoulder blade while eating can be due to esophagitis/ GERD
The pain in loin on right side with stools smelling like clam can be due to severe colitis or entero-colitis.
This can be diagnosed by the following:
Clinical evaluation and examination by a Doctor.
tests of blood and stool.
Ultrasonography and CT scan of the abdomen if required on failure of medical management. As also Colonoscopy.

A course of a PPI like Omeprazole,
Antacids particularly whenever you are on empty stomach.
A course of an antibiotic, Metronidazole, probiotics can help to get you a cure.
If the course of such medicines does not help you, you need a reference to the Gastroenterologist for further investigations and management .

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
