Brief Answer:
Due to muscle spasm.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain on the upper part of the thigh if it is not associated with swelling or an increased pain on walking is not likely to be due to a blood clot. This is more likely to be due to a muscle spasm.
Sometimes, it can be due to dehydration, muscle fatigue or electrolyte abnormalities. It is better to drink sufficient fluid and also see that your intake of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium ) is sufficient. You can drink Oralyte for this.
The use of anti inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, cataflam with meals after a hot fomentation will be helpful.
You should try local pain killer sprays. It does not seem much serious issue but pain should be controlled. In case the pain persists then do consult your physician for direct examination.
I hope this answers your query.
