What Causes Pain Spasms In Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: Hi , I have been having been having what I can only describe as a spasms or " hunger type of pain" in my lower left abdomen .
It started a little under a week ago ... I didnt eat much for a couple of days , then I finally was very hungry ... and kind of over did it with my food . I felt bloated and my acid reflux kicked in and had a lot of lower left abdominal discomfort .
As the days went on I felt a lot better ... I started taking Dexilant for the reflux . I had the diarrea for a day and then again yesterday . I have felt very tired lately from this and have not had a lot of energy .
I now just have a few if these flair ups in the mornings and nights . It does not affect my sleeping . I have no fever , no blood in my stool , no pain to the touch in the abdomen and am having normal movements now.
I have had blood tests and an abdominal scan and an upper endoscopic procedure done for my reflux. Everything has come back normal. It's was done a few months ago.
What do you think these spasms could be?. Do you think it could be IBS?, if so what would you recommend to relax my stomach's intestinal track?.
Thank You

Brief Answer:
Cholecyst problems should be ruled out before dete

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

The pain/spasms you are having are due to acidity of the stomach as long as all your tests resulted normal.

I highly advise to:
Eat often, small portions, chew up slowly
Avoid foods that would lower stomach pH
Avoid carbonated drinks that would cause bloating
Take PPIs, antacids
Take simethicone for bloating

Cholecyst problems should be ruled out before determining IBS.

Hope it helped.

Brief Answer:
PPIs,antacids,metronidazole,probiotics,simethicone

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

Thank you for providing more of your medical data.

As I have already mentioned earlier, I'd recommend to:
- start antacids and PPIs to calm your stomach
- prescription buscopan is also advised
- with regards to antibiotics, they are advised only in cases of bacterial overgrowth (disbacteriosis). If your physician, after clinical evaluation thinks that there is a case of bacterial overgrowth can prescribe antibiotics e.g. metronidazole
- probiotics are also advise to optimize intestinal flora
- simethicone is advised to reduce bloating

Hope it helped!
